Miami Heat Center Earns High Praise from Celtics’ Legend

Bob Cousy has been retired from the NBA since 1970, he played during a time some experts refer to as the “Golden Era” of basketball and played with NBA greats such as Bill Russell and John Havlicek on the Celtics dynasty.

Hassan Whiteside is currently a center for the Miami Heat that has had quite the journey during his time in professional basketball, it has taken him from NBA Draft pick to the D-League and overseas stints in China and Lebanon with a few surgeries in between. After such a ride some would have given up on their dream but Hassan seems to have found his stride with the Heat where he has averaged 15.9 PPG, 11.6 RPG and 3 BLKPG over the last 10 games.

Whiteside’s impressive play has made an impression on NBA Legend Bob Cousy where he was quoted saying that Whiteside was the first player in 40 years that reminded him of Bill Russell on the defensive end and rebounding. This may seem like a small comparison to some that may not have seen Russell in his playing days, but BOB Cousy has witnessed greats such as Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O’Neil and Hakeem Olajuwon during their playing days.
