The Boston Celtics will be busy on draft night as their trades over the last few years for draft picks will now reap benefits as they currently hold 8 picks in the upcoming draft….yes 8, that’s 13% of the league’s 60 picks total. They may trade some of these picks but with a draft class including Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, Buddy Hield, they will be sure to use their third pick to secure an immediate impact player that can help to build on their Playoff run that had them losing in the First Round to the Atlanta Hawks. Take a look at this 2016 Mock Draft for the first round and see if these predictions ring true on Draft Night.
In game 1 of the Golden State Warriors playoff game against the Houston Rockets, most Warriors fans held their breathes as they watched the two-time league MVP and leader of the defending champs leave the game with announcers questioning a game 2 return.
This is quite the flashback to the 1972-73 Boston Celtics team that was lead by John Havlicek to a 68-win season (which is now 5th best) and deemed to cruise through the playoff. This was until the Celtic star injured his shoulder in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference series versus the Knicks and was questionable for the remaining games in the series. Even though Havlicek played in the remaining games, he was nowhere close to the player that brought the team to this point. The Knicks figured out how to exploit the team that was without the efficiency of Havlicek and the Celtics were eliminated in a pivotal Game 7.
The Golden State Warriors have been having quite the magical season where they have broken numerous records, including the best record in the history of the NBA, with 73 wins. We will now get to see if the “focus” on team stays true as the Warriors continue their playoff push without their floor general.
The Boston Celtics recently had a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the TD Garden arena, and with one minute left and the Celtics already having the game won all the fans in the Garden saluted Kevin Garnett for his six year contribution (2007 – 2013). Garnett was the backbone of the 2008 Championship Celtics team that defeated rivals Los Angeles Lakers in a classic finals series. With this being the tail end of a back to back, fan didn’t get to see Garnett grace the court as he was being rested but throughout the game his name was chanted along with numerous fans wearing his No. 5 jersey. He is the third highest scorer in the TD Garden stadium and is often mentioned among the greats such as John Havlicek, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, among others.
Watch his tribute below:
There has been almost two months worth of basketball played in the NBA 2015/16 season and the Boston Celtics have had an impressive start so far with a 5-4 record. The Celtics have recorded impressive wins versus some of the top teams last season including the Atlanta Hawks, who had the best record in the East last season and made it to the Eastern Conference Finals and the Oklahoma City Thunder who boast two of the best players in the league.
With no clear superstar on the roster the Celtics have relied on teamwork on both the offensive and defensive end; Help defense and communication have helped them suppress some of the leagues superstars. Isaiah Thomas has taken the leadership role as a four year veteran and has lead the team in scoring and assists, averaging 20.8 ppg and 6.3 apg. The Celtics will face some tough matchups for the remainder of the month but with good health and teamwork they will finish strong.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have been under a microscope this season with everyone trying to poke holes in their offense, whether questioning if Ezekiel Elliott is playing as well as last year or if J.T. Barrett is the better option at the starting quarterback spot. One thing is for sure, the Buckeyes remain undefeated this season and their winning streak stretching to 20 games.
Ohio State will face off this weekend against Rutgers University (3-3) and this should be a high scoring as Rutgers are known for their lax defense that Ohio State will be sure to exploit. The game will be broadcasted at 8pm Eastern on ABC prime time.
